Well, it’s that time of year again. Australia day (26th of January for those keeping score at home) is rolling around, and as well as a public holiday, this means the Hottest 100 is upon us. Australia day for me has always been spent lounging in the pool in the hot sun with friends, drinking beers, and listening to Triple J’s Hottest 100. For those not in the know, the Hottest 100 is a music countdown, compiled once a year, tallying the best songs of the previous year. Here’s my votes for this year.
- Augie March - One Crowded Hour
- Decemberists - O Valencia!
- Killers - When You Were Young
- Knife, The - Silent Shout
- Midnight Juggernauts - 45 And Rising
- My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade
- OK GO - Here It Goes Again
- Rapture - Get Myself Into It
- Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill
- Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cheated Hearts
I try not to vote for the songs that I want to see win, but tend to vote for the songs which I think about when I think of 2006. My prediction for the number 1 song? Definitely My Chemical Romance. Though, in all fairness, I have always been wrong, and Aussie bands tend to get heavily favoured. Plus I can’t stand them. Freakin’ emos.
Hope everyone has a bloody top Australia day!
